Trending in the Kingdom: 🚌 Gus era opens in Prime Time

Get your popcorn ready 🍿 because Gus Malzahn’s debut at UCF will be in front of a nationally-televised audience on ESPN.
Here’s the scoop: The network released its early-season television schedule and decided to move UCF’s highly-anticipated season-opener against Boise State to Thursday night. It’s a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.
It’s the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Orlando Sentinel reported the terms of the home-and-home contract with the Broncos, which will pay the visiting team $200,000 per game. UCF visits Idaho on Sept. 9, 2023.
There’s some parallels between the two programs.
Between them, they have three BCS/New Year’s Six appearances in the past 15 years, with both of UCF’s coming in the past four years.
Both Boise State and UCF will be debuting new coaches. Gus Malzahn took over for Josh Heupel at UCF on February 15. Andy Avalos was hired at Boise State to replace Bryan Harsin on January 8.
Give me a Knugget 🐴: UCF is 23-2 at the Bounce House the past four years. This will be the seventh time since 2012 that they open up their season on a Thursday night.
📺 Other TV game times announced:

A big fly barrage in Clearwater 💣

The boys are putting’ on a show in Clearwater 🙌
7️⃣ homers sets the @American_BSB Championship single-game record #ChargeOn ⚔️

There’s been a drought in the Tampa Bay area recently, but UCF baseball had no problem making it rain bombs in Clearwater on Thursday. Not 1, not 2, not 3…but an American championship single-game record 7 home runs for the Knights in a 17-1 win over Memphis, which advanced them to the semifinals. You’ve been warned, USF.
There was even an inside-the-park home run by sophomore Tom Josten, which was pretty nuts. Here’s a look at each long ball hit:
1st inning: Josh Crouch two-run HR (2-0 UCF)
2nd inning: Alex Freeland and Nick Romano hit back-to-back solo shots (4-0 UCF)
5th inning: Josh Crouch solo HR (7-1 UCF), Tom Josten inside-the-park HR (8-1 UCF) and Gephry Pena two-run bomb (12-1 UCF)
6th inning: Jordan Rathbone grand slam (17-1 UCF)
It was a record-setting day in a number of ways. Again, they shattered the record for homers in a conference championship game, which was previously set at four.
Overall, UCF has nine bombs during the AAC Championship, which is also a record. UCF is 2-0 to open AAC tourney play for the first time since 2014.
Next up: The semifinals, Saturday at 9 a.m. vs. the winner of ECU/Memphis at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
UCF hit a tournament-record seven home runs in a 17-1 seven inning victory over Memphis in the seventh game of the 2021 American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Thursday, May 27 at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
🎗️ Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend! Make it a safe one and take a few minutes to remember all the service men and women we’ve lost who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice! - Ryan
